Love Without Limits

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

Sometimes we hear a verse so many times that it becomes background noise. John 3:16 is one of those verses. We see it on signs at football games, hear it in sermons, and maybe even learned it as one of our very first memory verses. But if we pause and really think about what it’s saying, it’s honestly mind-blowing.

God loved the world. Not just the best parts of it or the people who had their act together. He loved us. All of us. Messy, broken, complicated people. And that love wasn’t just a feeling. It was an action. He gave His one and only Son so that we could have a chance at real life—life that never ends, life full of hope.

This isn’t the kind of love that keeps score. It’s not the kind that says “I’ll love you if you deserve it” or “once you get it together.” It’s a love that moves first. That gives when it hurts. That chooses us over and over again, even on our worst days.

What Does That Look Like in Real Life?

So here’s something to think about. If we’re supposed to follow Jesus and grow more like Him, what would it look like to love like He does? Could we start giving without expecting anything in return? Could we forgive people who never even say they’re sorry? Could we love someone who doesn’t make it easy?

That kind of love is hard. Let’s be real—it’s way easier to just stick with people who are kind to us and write off the ones who hurt us. But when we love people the way God loves us, something changes. Not just in them, but in us too.

So today, maybe ask yourself: How can I show that kind of love to someone in my life? Is there a relationship that needs grace? A moment where I could be generous instead of guarded? You don’t have to do it perfectly. Just take a step. Small things done with big love can ripple out further than we realize.

Prayer

God, thank You for loving me exactly as I am. Help me to really understand how deep and real Your love is. And when I do, give me the courage to love others the same way. Show me who needs that kind of love today and help me not to hold back. Amen.
